Be Sure, your Drinking water is Pure…

Water purifier market arousing in a big way leaving behind the tradition of old filters, creating new opportunities by providing the best of technologies……

People today are drowning in a sea of sports drinks, energy beverages but the necessity of life, a precondition for human, animal and plant life as well as an indispensable resource for the economy is ‘WATER’. Water is life and hence its purity is very important. Water consumption is the necessity of life. We use water in many ways in our daily life includes preparation of food, washing of vegetables etc and thus impure water can be the source of food borne disease through consumption of the same micro organisms. According to World Health Organization, diarrhoea disease accounts for an estimated 4.1% of the total daily global burden of disease and is responsible for the deaths of 1.8 million people every year. It was estimated that 88% of that burden is attributable to unsafe water supply, sanitation and hygiene is mostly concentrated on children in developing countries.

Water has been used since antiquity as a symbol by which to express devotion and purity. Some cultures, like the ancient Greeks, went as far as to worship gods who were thought to live in and command the waters. Whole cities have been built by considering the location and availability of pure drinking water. Contrary to the past, our recent developed technological society has become indifferent to this miracle of life. Our natural heritage (rivers, seas and oceans) has been exploited, mistreated and contaminated.

According to a recent research most of the families are living up on the system of bottled water as tap water is not as good as it was during our forefather’s time. Due to climatic changes, drought, alarming levels of salinity, industrial wastes, sources like river, catchments and reservoir systems are under dire stress, which deteriorates the water quality day by day. Further, one does not get sufficient water from river and has to resort to underground water, which generally is contaminated with dissolved impurities. By the time water (municipal or ground water) reaches your tap, it may get contaminated on way, which leads to common water problems. Many people have become concerned about the quality of their tap water and have turned to bottled water as a solution. Studies have shown, however, that bottled water is not necessarily cleaner or safer than tap water, and that bottled water actually has fewer standards regulating it. Some of the problems with bottled water include: the inconvenience of having to buy and carry water; the questionable and inconsistent quality of the water; the expense; and the environmental effect of the manufacture and disposal of all those plastic bottles.

According to Dr. P. C. Rishi, a Senior Medical Consultant with a renowned hospital in South Delhi, “Water makes up more than two thirds of the weight of the human body, and without it, humans would die in a few days.  The human brain is made up of 95% water; blood is 82% and lungs 90%.  A mere 2% drop in our body’s water supply can trigger signs of dehydration: fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on smaller print, such as a computer screen”.

“In the changing season, particularly in cities there is a sudden spur of water-borne diseases like cholera, jaundice, malaria and dengue. The reason is one, that is, quality of water in these cities goes from bad to worse. So it is highly important to intake clean & safe water,” added Dr Rishi.

Water is polluted with the impurities you may not even have thought of, like rust, pesticides, arsenic, fluoride, lead, heavy metals and excessive bacteria’s and viruses, which are present in our drinking water. Water might be pure while leaving the treatment plants but when it travels miles through the opening pipes, which are corroded at many places, the rust from pipes become soluble and gets released into water and is generally visible. Pesticides (deadly chemicals) that are used to eliminate weeds, insects and other harmful elements in crops are too entering our ground water and are contaminating our drinking water. Water impurities like heavy metals, fluoride, lead etc leads to harmful diseases like Kidney problems, cancer, stroke, damage to central nervous systems and many other serious problems.

As the problems of dissolved impurities are increasing, thankfully, so are the solutions. But the irony is, most of the water purification systems available in market target only a few types of contaminants and are completely ineffective against other impurities specially ‘dissolved impurities’. As told by Mr Mahesh Gupta, Chairman Kent RO Systems  “Having a water purifier does not solve the problem but real solution lies in selecting one which fulfills the required conditions. Water which come to our homes contains harmful dissolved impurities and also have some essential minerals required for our body, and its very important to remove those contaminants while maintaining the essential minerals which should be an actual work for water purifier. While buying a water purifier the important thing is to know the purifying technique which will help you to understand whether any of the options provide your family 100% pure and healthy water, free from dissolved impurities and maintains essential minerals.” A water purifier must possess the following functions:
  • Suitable for all types of raw water like tap water, bore-well water and stored tank water.
  • Remove all kinds of impurities namely suspended particles, microbiological impurities (bacteria, viruses & pyrogens) & excess dissolved salts.
  • T.D.S of purified water is adjustable to ensure minimum mineral contents in purified water.
  • Should have double purification by Ro and UV.
